Is this a petrified bone?

Here's one that I came across while walking in the woods near a river. The shape caught my eye so I picked it up. Is it a Petrified bone, or just a rock?20200719_120513.thumb.jpg.ccfa41624e3ae3f1431e668cb6c0614a.jpg

It's not pretty, but that's bone. If it's rock hard it is a fossil. I'll let others deal with the technicality of if petrified is the correct term for the preservation or not.

when you have a close look at the end of the bone (the broken, not rounded one), could you see some details?

Sorry guys, I have to disagree with you on this one. Especially looking at the last pic has me convinced this is geologic and not a fossil.

It's an old memory, but it seems like I remember @Plax identifying a bone preservation that had this sort of appearance once. I agree it does have a geologic look. The underlying texture is very bone like though.

A straight on view of the broken end would help.

The area I circled in the first photo below looks (and implies) geologic to me.

I admittedly haven't earned my wings on this forum yet, so take this as you will, but I'll be shocked if the consensus points to bone on this one.  I respect the experience of those who posted, but I'm very squarely in the geologic camp.

Bone isn't the same as a bone.  Just sayin'. :) It would help if someone would suggest the rock type that would have a texture like this.

Maybe weathered tripolitic chert (low grade) may look like this ? :)
