Devonian Brachiopod Prep Question

I have a few shells like the one pictured below from Penn Dixie in New York. All I have for prep are dental picks. Is it possible to clean out the matrix to reveal more of the shell details with basic tools?

It can be done with hand tools, but it is a painfully slow process.

Magnification and sharp tools are key.

These are best prepared with air abrasion.
