NE Iowa Ordovician Collecting

Over the weekend I took a quick two day scouting trip up into the Ordovician of Iowa and Minnesota. One of the around dozen sites I visited was a roadcut in Winneshiek County, Iowa in the Galena Group, probably Dunleith Formation. I was in a bit of a rush and only collected here for 20 minutes or so, but it seems like a very productive site that I will certainly visit again.

A three-dimensional graptolite (Diplograptus?)

Liospira sp.

I picked this piece up for the nice cephalon (Calyptaulax I think), and was pleasantly surprised to find at least a partial trilobite on the back. Maybe Bumastoides? Not confident there is much more buried but a good find for me either way.

My favorite was this small but very well preserved Fisherites reticulatus. They rarely split this well. This one is very inflated, and although broken in half, it's kind of neat to see the cross section.

Connor,

Nice finds. I too like the fisherite. They are tough to find in this great of shape!!  I was hoping to see the conulariids that you found. Turns out, I spent the whole day in Minneapolis waiting for my wife's plane. Due to flight cancellations, she missed a connecting flight.

None are complete unfortunately, but I'll post some pics once I cut them out the large rocks they're in. The one complete one I found ended up shattering when the slab it was in finally split after 30 minutes of sledging.

Maybe the last trilobite is Anataphrus vigilans?

Could definitely be Anataphrus borraeus, without more prep I am not sure though.
