Large Agadir Ammonite - real or fake?

Recommended Posts

Hi all, I’ve just purchased a large Agadir Ammonite from a dedicated fossil shop and am wondering if it at all real? I would appreciate any inclination!

I believe your ammonite is a real ammonite but the inner lines are carved. Its a very common practice for these. Still a cool fossil.

Most of what you see is carved.  Everywhere you see tool marks, parts of the ammonite have been removed and/or created.

It is real and it is cool but a real shame that they have to beat these up so much to prep them out.

To begin with, there wouldn't have been all that much more of the ammonite than you can see on the reverse.

The prepping is massively heavy-handed and over the top, but the Moroccan preppers will argue they sell more like this, and they're probably right, annoying to the connoisseur though it is.
