Rodneymarsh
Found this rock/fossil on a beach in Northumberland, England. I did not break it open. This is as found. Although dull I believe the reverse side contains Pyrite. Any help in identifying is appreciated Edited August 11, 2022 by Rodneymarsh
Fossildude19
This looks like a concretion. It may or may not have a fossil inside of it. 2 Tim - VETERAN SHALE SPLITTER VFOTM --- APRIL - 2015 __________________________________________________ "In every walk with nature one receives far more than he seeks." Rodneymarsh
Thanks Fossildude19. As it's quite "thin" how would be best to crack it open? Any advice of where to make the hammer blow? Edited August 11, 2022 by Rodneymarsh
val horn
I would not hold my breath, however since it looks like two semicircles with a depression running between them I would but a flat chisel into the grove an see if I could tap it open from it there-- dont know if that is the best approach but if there is anything inside it can be prepped from there
