Theropod tooth

This tooth is from Tiouraren Hill, Téneré Desert, Niger. I thought it may have aff to ceratosaurs and, looking up the formation, might it be Spinostropheus?

It does look similar to what you want to look for in Ceratosaurus teeth. Spinostropheus isn't associated with any teeth, so it's impossible to say. But it is likely a ceratosaurian of some kind and not a basal spinosaurid as it's being sold as.

I do also have a similar tooth from Nafanfo, Agadez, Niger with the similar fluting and no mesial serrations.

Well Serrano-Martinez et al. paper (2014) paper on Tiouraren theropod teeth describes this morph type with apicobadal ridges as Spinosauridae.  All I have to go on.

I don't have access to it, but would this paper be significant in anyway? https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S0895981120303242

At least, the abstract mentions supposed Jurassic spinosaurid teeth (including Niger).

No idea, I don't have access to it.

There is Serrano-Martinez et al. paper (2016) that describes 4 theropod teeth and one is a spinosauridae from Irhazer Group no vertical ridges apparant but the preservationis very poor.

@Kikokuryu @Troodon

I just saw this tooth somewhere also from Jurassic Niger. This looks incredibly cerato dentary to me. Could we be seeing a decent case building for a ceratosaur in Niger 10-15M years before ceratosaurus?

So we ignore the paper that describes its as a Spinosauridae.  The only paper that focus on Tiouraren theropod teeth?   Not going there.

When I made my comments there were no images.  I agree that it looks like a Ceratosaurus sp. tooth.  The paper already identifies some of the teeth examined as Ceratosaurus so there is no case to be built up they appear to be in that deposit

I've updated my Niger topic to reflect new information provided on Sato et al. (2020) paper.   Thank you for your help @JoeS

Identification of Theropod Teeth from Niger - Questions & Answers - The Fossil Forum

Based on that publication it's fair to say that this tooth has affinities to a Ceratosaurid.   Unfortunately, until teeth are described for Spinostropheus its difficult to assign it to that species.

@Troodon, would you give this one similar probability? I'll add this pic as well.

Most likely yes but you know me on these type of teeth.  Pictures are nice but without doing a multivariate analysis it's just a guess.  Need numbers.

All I know is that it's 2" on the nose (5.1cm), which probably also bodes well, since it's clearly not Afrovenator. I'll hopefully know more soon.
