Alex BC
Hello there! I found this "Bone/Fossil?" on the beach in Longs SC. Any help with the identification or classification of this would be fantastic! Thanks again, ABC

Al Dente
I’m convinced it is a piece of ammonite. 1
digit
Yup. Appears to be a worn disarticulated ammonite chamber. http://fossilsofnj.com/invertebrates/ammonite.htm Cheers. -Ken

debivort
Where was it found? I don't think of the coastal SC deposits as having much cretaceous or older material.

Yeah it looks like the pieces of ammonite i've seen - but this is the first I'm hearing about SC having material that old. 1 Fossils? I dig it. debivort
I think we might have an answer: "[cretaceous echinoid at Myrtle beach] .... These come out of the Upper Cretaceous PeeDee formation, which is sometimes dredged offshore and used for beach replenishment."
