micaham
I recently purchased this Spinosaurus tooth from the Kem Kem beds in Morocco, it’s 3 3/8” long and supposedly has no repair or restoration according to seller. Does the tooth show any signs of repair or restoration? Is it entirely real?
Phos_01
Hello, In my opinion this is a completely real Spinosaurus tooth that was broken in the middle and has been restored mostly to the right side. I have marked were , this is pretty common, you can spot this at the typical vertical emaille lines that go up and are interrupted. The rooth looks all real to me, so overal a nice big tooth
Troodon
Welcome to the forum. I agree with the repair/resto comments that were made by Phos_01. My initial guess was that the tip break was not a clean one just needing glue, fill was needed to reattach it. However there is a second possibility given how wide the fill appears to be, which is very odd. Red flags popped up when I saw a kink in the tooth, by the repair area, and an offset to the carina, both of which are not typical. So was it a function of a poor repair or is the tip a composite? My guess is the latter but its difficult to confirm and really does not matter, its not what was purchased, a tooth without repair or resto. Sharp photos of both carinae and sides might help however I'm not sure we will get a definitive answer. Bottom line the tooth was poorly restored, your call but I would return it too much uncertainty. Like I've seen in many cases the seller may not have knowledge of the work that has been done since many just flip product and are blind to these repairs. Spinosaurid teeth are fairly common and complete ones without repairs or resto are available. Always good practice to post interests here before you buy especially with Moroccan material 1
