What kind of petrified wood would this be?

Hey all! I am currently helping to identify rocks and minerals for a museum and came across this piece of, what I believe is, petrified wood. I have never seen one that looks like this, however. It is highly solicified and looks rather similar to a zebra mussel. Any thoughts on what kind of petrified with this might be if at all?

For an accurate/positive ID you need to be able to see the cell structure of petrified wood (if it is preserved) under magnification.  From what I can see, your specimen, with what looks like a unique herringbone pattern and the brown colorization, could be a piece of rare Hell’s Canyon petrified wood (sequoia tree) from the Oregon/Idaho border.  Try to compare your piece to the below picture from Dreamstime.com and other pictures on the web of Hell's Canyon herringbone petrified wood.

Snakewood. I think it comes from Texas. Either that or the rare Heinz 57 wood.:zzzzscratchchin:
