I recently bought this fossil.. What to think about my Hyphalosaurus lingyuanensis from the Yixian Formation of Liaoning province, ChinaHas some restoration including a the right side being secured back on not that it damaged.

Hope for some I hope for honest answers and opinions. I can have some bad news if that is the case ;).

@Coco  I'm afraid you misunderstand me. Of course I expect honest answers here, I've been present on this forum for a while now and I really like the atmosphere.

What I meant is that people should not hold back. If it is fake or if there is a lot of repair, I would like to know. Even that is annoying to say. That's what I mean, in the Netherlands we express it that way, maybe the literal translation isn't very useful.

But I have no doubt that they give honest and sincere advice here!

@Fossildude19

I understand that. I will work on that, I'm sick at the moment so it will take a while. I can go home right now :(. I asked now because I can still cancel. Is there anything to say about it?

I find the hands suspicious, for example, because I don't see any phalanges. The head also glows strangely in UV.

Some ribs look painted to me, but again, better photos would be needed.
I think these look fake, but I have been wrong in the past, so, must rely on better photos to be sure.

I think some of the ribs, pelvis, one or two feets and perhaps part of the skull are overpainted or colored. This is what I think when I compare the colors of the skeleton-parts and the matrix. But, this animals are very common and perhaps there are as much originals than fakes on the market. And, a restored one with small paintings is not a fake

Thanks for the quick responses. It confirms my feeling. Although it is indeed not completely fake with restored or painted parts. I prefer a more original piece.

Okay, I did misunderstand, sorry. That’s the problem between languages. I’ve been reading your interventions for a while and I was surprised to understand that.

I can’t help you, it’s not my area of expertise, but you’re going to get the advice of the greatest people here.
