It’s a nice size : 39 cm x 25 cm Miocene East Java @MarcoSr do you have a similar one in your collection ?? Really nice, very large piece. I'm not sure if I have a similar type of petrified wood. I would have to see the cell structure. You really can't tell by the colors. I definitely don't have a piece that large. Some very large pieces of petrified wood come out of Indonesia. I've seen kitchen tables made from a single piece. There is a UK seller who sells lots of Indonesian petrified wood at very reasonable prices for the pieces themselves, but the shipping cost to the USA is prohibitive even for small pieces. Yoda
@MarcoSr I will take a close-up over the weekend I am really pleased with it. Wasn't too expensive considering the size. 1 MotM August 2023 - Eclectic Collector

MarcoSr
1 hour ago, Yoda said: @MarcoSr Here is a close up of the cell structure Your piece looks like a hardwood with excellent cell structure. An Indonesian petrified wood expert should be able to ID it. Most of my Indonesian petrified wood is softwood, or the cell structure has been lost in the mineralization process. I looked at the cell structure pictures of the hardwood pieces that I do have from Indonesia, and none of the cell structures are a good match to yours. I have repaired it and will do some further cleaning of the excess glue this evening I have taken it up with the seller. They are quite reputable. minnbuckeye
I had the opportunity to hunt the Arbuckle Hills a few weeks ago. Seeing the Callixylon whiteanum reminded me of a rock I picked up, appearing to be wood. My research of the area ahead of the trip did not talk about or show any woody specimens. So I left it behind. Had I not had a 50 lb luggage limit on my return flight, it would have returned to Minnesota with me. Oh well! By the way, the fossil is listed as being found in "Murray City". My guess is it should read "Murray County".

Yoda
My son has gone to university in a city about 200 miles from where we live. Yesterday I went up by train to spend the day with him. While walking around, we passed a crystal shop so I went inside to see if they had any fossils. A few totally overpriced items. But I did buy these two. Just as a reminder of the visit. Yoda
Received these small pieces of Stromatolite recently. It really annoys me that the seller chops them into such small bits. 1 2 1 MotM August 2023 - Eclectic Collector

I have to doubt the info on this one... It looks like a piece of the common Green River (Eocene) stuff like the couple I have: (wish I could get the color balance right) 1

Looks like the stromatolites from Wamsutter Wyoming. See my Wamsutter, Wyoming stromatolite below. I take my photos with a real digital camera, with the color balance set to 'incandescent', and it still looks off - even after I do a bit of post-processing. I need a better light source. Anyway they're not too far off to tell what you're looking at, I think.

I really like the colors in stromatolites from Hungary, which are one of the most colorful stromatolites (most have fairly muted colors) that I've seen.
