Paleozoic Shark Teeth

Wow. This was one of my favorite hunts I’ve had in a long time. I’ve been looking for Paleozoic sharks teeth for a really long time, and have finally stumbled across them. I took a trip out to southeastern Ohio, and I’m not disappointed to say the least. These sites were really small, but I found a LOT of shark teeth, and fish fossils as well. Here’s the finds:

Shark teeth:

These sharks teeth are a lot smaller than the ones I find at home, but they’re a whole lot cooler since they’re new.

I think this is a fish tooth.

Biggest sharks tooth from this site. About a 1/4 inch big. What an awesome tooth!

I think this is a tooth as well.

All and all, today was a great day. I had fun collecting Paleozoic shark teeth, thank you Ohio!

Very nice! What time period(s) other than Paleozoic?

Specifically the Caboniferous or the Pennsylvanian period

Thanks for all the responses! These sites were the smallest I've ever been to. There was only a couple of fossiliferous rock exposed here so I was supprised at how little these pockets were but the quality definitley makes up for it. I'm hoping maybe next time to get a petalodus Ohioensis when I visit the area at some point.

Thanks for sharing, Paleozoic shark teeth are always exciting (and even better when they are from my favorite time period!).

Given how small these teeth are, it might be worthwhile to try and dissolve the limestone and look for microfossils.

I’m currently looking for an acid which would dissolve the limestone without dissolving the teeth so if you know of how thats done it’d be cool I don’t want to ruin the fossils I already have though.
