RuMert
Hi all! What do you think about this piece? The size is under 2 cm. I'm a bit confused about the structure below the teeth (unfortunately it's shattered and only parts remain). It doesn't look like bone - smooth and transparent and also appears pimply . Is it normal? pachy-pleuro-whatnot-odon
I think this is the maxilla/premaxilla of a predatory fish. Only the snout part has been flattened, which is what makes it look so broad. But it does look like very thin, crushed bone to me, with the pipliness probably deriving from the matrix with the bone being but a film on top of it... 2 'There's nothing like millions of years of really frustrating trial and error to give a species moral fibre and, in some cases, backbone' -- Terry Pratchett
