Help IDing 3 Carnivore teeth - Peace River, Florida

So couple ID’s needed from today… 2 partial carnassials that I’m 99% certain on but would like confirmation, and 1 partial canine that I’ve got no clue on.

Partial carnassials - Dire Wolf, right? It’s gotta be:

And the canine - found in the same spot as one of the above teeth, but I don’t want to make any assumptions, so… @Shellseeker do you think THIS one could be smilodon? :heartylaugh:But really - big cat? Seems too blade-like for ursid or canid, but I could be totally wrong.

I am not getting a feel for the "canine". Need better lights... can not distinguish a boundary between enamel and root.. 3rd photo seems to have parallel enamel bands, similar to horse.

The tooth under the "2" is a Right side upper P4 ... Dire wolf...  The root on the left may be from a Left side upper P4...

For comparison....

The canine has enamel on both sides but is very much worn/broken - you can’t really tell where the root starts. Frankly, I’m not sure if it even has the root still but ill take some better pics though. Doubt it’ll get ID’d, honestly.

Ans perfect - I figured they were the left/right P4’s when I compared em to the coyote P4 I got from Harry! Thank you!

@Shellseeker better-ish pictures. Hard to capture the enamel since it’s broken and not that visible except at certain angles - so I circled it in red.

Keep that in mind.

Photos are much better....

We have the tip of canine or tusk,

1) is curved sharply

2) very thin enamel

3) wrapped around dentine

4) hollow inner core....

So you go to your collection,  TFF,  internet and ask:  what have I ever seen that matches most of that description?

Some sharply curving whale/dolphin teeth or maybe a tusk...

When you can not identify,  you can speculate....or not

Peccary was actually one of my first thoughts - it felt too rectangular instead of the triangle that peccary seems to be, but due to how worn it is, it wouldn’t surprise me. Definitely agree that there’s probably no way to know for sure though!

Daniel,

It seems like it is very dangerous out there. Hard to breathe in 15 feet of water.... I'd suggest that you take a break,  at least a month or so, just to stay safe,  and incidentally enough time for this cut on my leg to heal , so that you will have some competition:rolleyes: for those Dire Wolf teeth.

Luckily we got out of there right before the rain started - but the water immediately rose a good 2’. Made it juuuuuust in time!

But hey, if you want competition I’d be glad to provide some :D I hope the recovery is speedy and easy!

I hate the inactivity, but it is not a bad time to be healing.  My favorite locations are 3-4 feet over my head.  If this continues, I may have to try that land hunting...

Definitely worked well in that you’re not missing much, at least! My spots are having the same issue, though they will hopefully be revitalized by all this water! Also glad to know that no matter how many years I hunt for, the itch won’t disappear… :heartylaugh:
