JustinTime
Uncovered this artifact while clearing stumps from one of the hillside in my back yard. The site is close to Long Island Sound but is +/- 150' above sea level. The artifact seems to resemble the head of a serpent or an aquatic animal. The photos illustrate what might be an eye socket, the crown of a head, a small fang and a nostril. Would appreciate any and all comments that might help identify the item. Kane
I'm thinking this is a suggestively shaped rock, and not a fossil or artifact. Differential weathering might account for the eroded fissure. 2 ...How to Philosophize with a Hammer
mr.cheese
i agree with @Kane I think it is a rock that looks like a creature sometimes we experience pareidolia while looking for fossils. This to me seems like an example of this. Funky looking serpent rock though!
Rockwood
The rock type is a little hard for me to be certain. Perhaps a metamorphic rock. It gets so close to molten that minerals tend to crystalize in pockets this way.
