Teeny Tiny Pelvis Bone?

Alex BC

Recommended Posts

Howdy everyone! I found this on a beach in South Carolina and obviously I have no idea what this little guy is, but it looks like a miniature pelvis haha! If anyone has an idea as to what this is, I'd love to get an expert's opinion! Thanks in advance for any help!

I see you posted a few small fossils for ID... this does not look pelvisish as it is symmetrical.  The pelvis is not.  The sacrum, yes , but not the pelvis.  The sacrum is the string of verts inside the pelvis.

It would help if you could show us closer up pix, rather than pictures of your fingers holding something.  : )

I need to get a better camera. My phone has some trouble getting in close. I'll look for a solution for further fossils, thanks!

The camera on my phone is not great, either, but there are things you can do to help.  Take the pictures from above with the item laying on a solid colored surface.  When you hold the item, the camera tries to focus on your hand instead of the item. Assuming you have a smart phone, you should be able to edit the photos.  Crop out any empty space, which will enlarge the item.  Brighten up the photos, if needed, although yours look decent brightness-wise.

I often have to take several pictures to get one sharp enough to post, but playing with the brightness, contrast and shadows can really help with an ID.

My favorite things about fossil hunting: getting out of my own head, getting into nature and, if I’m lucky, finding some cool souvenirs.

Your pictures are fine - so your current camera is working fine.

You need to crop your pictures so only the fossil is showing.

Don't hold them, place them on a flat, solid colored surface.

Make sure you have enough light, and photo is in focus before you post them.

Here is your last photo - cropped and brightened:
