joeride95
Hi everyone, can you tell me what tooth it is? some tell me it's Pliosaur but I don't see many similarities to other pliosaur teeth I've seen around.
Praefectus
It is a Prognathodon tooth from the Moroccan Phosphates.
Meatasaurus93
Nice tooth, but, unfortunately, it is not from a Pliosaur. For starters, Pliosaur teeth have distinct vertical striations that run along the enamel. Here's an example of a pristine Pliosaur tooth for reference: I agree with Praefectus that it's from a Moroccan Mosasaur. These teeth are fairly common but still interesting and nice pieces to own.
pachy-pleuro-whatnot-odon
Yup, this is definitely not a pliosaur tooth. This tooth has folds towards the base of the crown, but in the crown itself, whereas pliosaur teeth have striations set on top of the enamel of the tooth. I, by the way, would not call this a prognathodontid tooth, but am rather thinking of Eremiasaurus heterodontus, due to the one anterior carina and the fact that teeth from this species can occasionally be either somewhat prismatic or, in extreme cases, have folds as seen here...
