This piece was found by a river the beautiful ribbing is repeated- 5 segments. Im not sure what it is but would appreciate help in identifying!

I think it's a blastoid theca.

We need to know where it is from, the rock unit name and the age.

 

Best guess is Pentremites.

I agree. Some species of Pentremites. (Morphology diagram of Pentremites godoni shown below. One of the more common species). Although it’s a little worse for wear, if you look at the second posted picture, it shows a decent view of the ambulacra, radial, and deltoid plates. Pentremites are also known from West Virginia.

Given the preservation it will be hard to narrow this one down to a specific species, but knowing provenance might help.
