This was found near Adams Mills, Ohio in woods near a body of water. It floats in water.  Any ideas on what this is?

Discarded pumice.

Fossil hunting is easy -- they don't run away when you shoot at them!

I'm in the pumice camp. I find it hard to believe that slag would float or am I wrong there?

Granulated blast furnace slag is listed as having a specific gravity of 2.08. Is over half the volume seen in the post contained in voids ?

If the example of pumice given is a positive example to be used as reference I think it seems likely.

Ohio is known for their production of steel, not their vulcanism! I am of in the slag opinion.

A quick online search shows a lot of articles about injecting gases into slag to make it foam.

Really learned something new! But that´s an easy task :D.

It looks neither like typical pumice nor like typical slag, but a lot like these:

Foamed slag (link to google pic results).
