Saurornithelestes 2nd premax?

This reminds me of those specialized Acheroraptor premax 2 teeth (for preening?). I'm never seen one for Saurornithelestes, but I suspect that's what this is. I don't know if Dromaeosaurus has anything like this.

  • Judith River formation, Hill co, Montana
  • CH: 7.3mm (I added 0.3mm for tip wear)
  • CBL: 4.8mm
  • CBW: 2.3mm
  • Mesial serration density: 4.8/mm
  • Distal serration density: about 9.5/mm

Tooth matches the published Judith River Fm holotype of Zapsalis perfectly.

Base on the DPF Saurornitholestes publication we now know that it's a 2nd Premaxillary tooth of this dinosaur.

So it's fair to identify it as cf Saurornitholestes.  Evans et al 2019 did note that Zapsalis will most likely remain valid  until a similar specimen is found and described in the JRF.
