CDragonetti
Does anyone have any idea what kind of bone this is? I’m an absolute novice but I am always finding bones on the beach and need your help to identify this one. Regards Christine
fossilhunter21
Welcome to TFF, Christine! It definitely is from a large animal. I am thinking maybe something like a whale or dolphin? @Harry Pristis and/or, @Shellseeker might be able to help with this.
Shellseeker
I think too big for dolphin. If you find large fossilized bones in Florida, usually it has to be Whale, Mammoth/Mastodon, or Sloth. Whale is usually ribs, vertebrae, jaw/skull material. Ribs/Verts are relatively easy to ID, so this is likely a piece of whale jaw or skull. Not very satisfying , but I do not recognize it. Possibly others will. 1 1 The White Queen ".... in her youth she could believe "six impossible things before breakfast"
