Fossil ID Eastern Oregon

Hello all,

I found this in a river near John Day, which is near the John Day Fossil beds. I have zero information as I am a total newbie to all this, but I am very excited! I’ve run it under the water to see it better. It is roughly 4 in/10cm from one end of the white part to the other end of the white part.  If you look at the top of the back, there looks to be more of the white just barely showing a ridge. Any help is appreciated!

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but this looks like a rock with some mineral inclusions. Not seeing a fossil here.

Hello HollandGalena and welcome to the forum,

My pareidolia does see a very nice natural sculpture of a dog looking to the right in your first pic though :P

@Mahnmut I might add, a dog with Rabies! Obvious foam coming from its mouth. But on a more serious note, I agree totally that this is not a fossil.

I am also a newbie, but the back side looks more promising to me. Toward the “bottom” where you are holding it.
