Found in Atlantic Highlands

Found this off a bay side beach near Sandy Hook in Atlantic Highlands area of NJ. It appears to have fenestrate bryozoan on the piece. Any thoughts on the host?

- not magnetic

- sounds like stone when tapped

- a piece broke off and it seems to be stone-like at the core

- here is a short perspective video that also may help with additional viewing angles

It seems that I have seen an object similar to this once before. I can't remember where. I am looking forward to hearing other members responses.

Looks like a rusted out zinc elbow fitting, to me.

Wouldn't a pipe fitting have a center hole of some sort for water or gas? Plus, this seems to be rock-like at the core.

I know. See the picture I posted. I think the red outline resembles what they have.

While I thought similar at first, I don't think it's a fitting

- the core is stone-like

- if both sides are pieces of a pipe, they broke at the same thickness on both sides which seems unlikely and it's not cut

- if the lines are threads, the connection points wouldn't make sense with the angle

I agree with @Fossildude19.  If you can find a set of thread gauges you should be able to determine whether the grooves match any standard thread sizes.  I bet they do.  I’m thinking 18 tpi but I would have to look up what thread counts are used on pipe fittings.

So duh I was looking at it wrong, however;

Maybe scraping different areas will determine if and what is metal.

I also agree with, @Fossildude19. It looks to be a pipe fitting. I don't know if pipe fittings are usually magnetic, but you could see if it is.

OP stated it was not magnetic. That said, pipe fittings can be made of non-magnetic metals such as copper or zinc.

Iron oxide is not magnetic. I think that would seem the most likely. Zinc, copper, and aluminum all oxidize a little different than this.
