What is this thing?

Superficially looks like a stromatoporoid. But the strata around Hocking Hills are mainly Mississippian-Pennsylvanian, if I recollect correctly. The stromatoporoids went belly-up at the end of the Devonian, of course. Since it was found in a stream, maybe it got washed in from Devonian outcrops in central Ohio, not too far west of Hocking County. Just speculating.

Found this on Google, looks like you may have nailed it!!! Thanks! (Now off to do research to see what the heck a stromatoporoid is!)

Could this be a inside mould of brachiopod. Shape is correct. Looks like muscle scars on hinge side. Some lines which could be edge of remaining shell
