Hello everyone! The smaller piece I found in the woods in NC,  and polished it up some. Not sure if it’s wood or bone, or?? If it is bone, any idea what type?  Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks everyone!!

Where was it found?

Waxhaw, NC. In the woods, 150 yards or so from a creek, in the dirt next to a big tree.

Not bone, but it could possibly be silicified wood.  It's hard to tell from these pictures.  I think it's most likely rock, but wait for other opinions.

Yeah that’s certainly possible! How could I test it? Thank you!

More than anything, well lit pictures (like in sunlight) that show the details and texture would help people in the forum to say for certain.

I agree they look like weathered rocks, a good close up of end would help, you could try slicing it to see center or do hardnesses test to try and narrow it down.

You guys are right I’m sure! I do a lot of arrowhead hunting as a hobby, and when I send them in, it’s surprising how many are not… but that’s how you learn! Take this for example… the artifact expert I referred to said this is natural… any idea on how this gets formed in nature??

Looks like a trace fossil to me. Invertebrate burrowing or, less likely, root trace are a couple possibilities.

So what do I do with it now… can it be useful in some way? Lol. Was thinking a door stop, but that would be an underutilization if resources due to worm hole!
