Johnny676767
New to Florida and found some interesting fragments wash up on the beaches between St. Augustine and Vilano. Found this today. Any ideas? Almost appears to be a stem or reed with a cocoon shaped feature on the interior. Thanks

Johnny676767
Yes, an antler. I knew it looked familiar. I couldn’t jar my old memory, though. I knew that base part was a diagnostic. Now, what type?

Harry Pristis
It's a seasonally-shed antler base. That is, the deer didn't die at the time it gave up the antler (unlike the first example below).
