Need help identifying

Unfortunately, I don't think this is a fossil.

Looks like a concretion or chert nodule, to me.

Yup. A really cool layered concretion that bears no small resemblance to an eye. It's Mother Nature having a joke again--she does make some fantastically shaped rocks. Though it is not a fossil it is still a pretty cool rock worthy of holding onto. ;)

 

Welcome to the forum--lots of great fossil information here on the forum. With a little digging (through the forum messages) you might find some fossil locations not too far from your location where you can go hunting for some real fossils with your daughter. :)

Unfortunately, I have to agree that this a concretion. Even though it is not a fossil, it is still a pretty neat little rock.
