striped shape on rock

Hi Forum,

i'd like to know what is or what caused this striped part of this rock and the little dotted part on the top. I collected it in the Omhden quarry (Germany, next to Holzmaden)

the length of the striped part is about 5cm while the max length of the rock is 17cm

Thanks a lot

Paolo

Can you get a close-up pic of just the area in question? I am getting crinoid vibes but am not sure if they are even found from that formation

The photos can be enlarged when you click on them, but I'm not seeing anything that looks like crinoid when I do. I'm not at all sure what these features are, but I don't think that they are fossiliferous. Otherwise I'm seeing ammonite impressions on the plate.

Hi,

i took some photos at sun light. Yeah, the plate surface is 100% covered by ammonites impressions. In fact i thought was something ammonite-related

Thanks

Paolo

Conceivably the wrinkled look could relate to the periostracum or decay product thereof. I can't say I've ever seen the exact feature identified as such however.

Could also be some sort of epibiont on the bivalve shell.

Did they have two aptichus ? I thought the ammonites had only one.
