I saw this on a site and made me wonder if it is authentic

Was wondering If this Allosaurus tooth was altered. The tooth is approx 0.95-1" long, seems somewhat "too good to be true".

@jacob86795, a more detailed pic of the tooth seems to be necessary to judge on it properly.

Thank you!

Moved to "IS IT REAL" subforum.

I have removed the price as that is not permitted on the forum.

Without a provenance it's extremely difficult to try to ID these type of teeth.

However, looks awfully narrow to be an Allosaurid tooth and no serrations are visible, looks like a partial tooth split lengthwise.   Like Franz indicated will need better photo's to see if something can be said.

I did some searching and found the tooth.  From the Morrison Fm it's real, not altered but as I suspected it's only half a tooth missing the distal half.  Not something I would recommend purchasing

still a bit confused on which side is distal/mesial, here is a photo after zooming in where you can see serrations

looks for me like placed in the matrix, not original found together (matrix on the fracture surface, does not fit in the hole...)

If it´s cheap and someone looks for a small-budged-tooth why not, in Germany we say "Belegstück" to fossils like this (perhaps @Ludwigia can translate :eyeroll:)
