Dino Dad 81
Hi All, This thing comes from the Morrison formation in Crook county, Wyoming. It's about 2.25 x 1" x 3/8". Any thoughts on what it is? With the veins on both sides, I'm wondering if it's an osteoderm. Thanks!!
Troodon
I wonder if these are geologic. Is the 3rd photo an edge view?
Dino Dad 81
@Troodon Yes, pic3 is an edge. They go: front, Back, Side1, Side2, Top, Bottom Would any other pics help? Edited November 30, 2022 by Dino Dad

Carl
Definitely not seeing an osteoderm. Sorry.
Troodon
For some reason video don't do well on my phone or tablet but the stills are still the best way to ID specimens. Still same opinion.
jpc
From what I have seen here (pix and video) I don't think this is a bone of any kind. The color is certainly atypical for Morrison Fm bones. Not saying impossible, but uncommon, and I see no bone texture on any surface. (99% of Morrison bones are black, turning blue-gray after exposure to el Sol). Edited November 30, 2022 by jpc 2
Dino Dad 81
@jpc @Troodon I assume plate armor like a Stegosaurus would also have some hollowy bone characteristics then? There's a subtle but present bit of tongue-sticking. Anything else I can try? ALSO, I found it in a Morrison mystery box that appeared very Morrisony with respect to the matrix and bone chunks. Nothing like the HC box I got. Morrison was way rockier and harder to work through.
Troodon
You can try coming to the realization that its not a fossil.
jpc
the thing running diagonally in the rock in your third picture is intriguing. Can we see a close-up of that?

jpc
the close up of the rock now looks like granite. I have no idea about the diagonal thing.
