Nathan87
I have recently found this forum and have been going through various posts. All very interesting but now has me questioning everything I own. I have been able to identify everything as real or fake except the dreaded Spinosaurus claw. It is something I have gotten years ago and I keep going back and forth on it so I need you expert opinions on it. It weights about 77 grams if that helps. Fossildude19
Fake. This is some other bones that have been carved, and likely composited, as are many of these for sale. 1 2 Tim - VETERAN SHALE SPLITTER VFOTM --- APRIL - 2015 __________________________________________________ "In every walk with nature one receives far more than he seeks." Phos_01
Hello, im sorry its fake indeed. Carved , the shape is off also. To narrow , this is pretty common to see. Sad to see , because many people still fall for it.
Troodon
Sorry, we've seen so many this past few months. Its a sad part of this industry. Fortunately several were recent purchases and they were able to return it. I have this topic that give some guidance in identification of these claws. Like to include your claw as an example of a fake if you do not have an issue. If you are ever out there again shopping for one give us a heads-up here and we will be glad to comment on it.
RJB
I remember a few years ago, maybe a lot more than that, someone said, "there are more fakes than real fossils". I'm starting to believe that. RB 1 1

I am not too surprised that this one is a fake. I have had my doubts since it did feel as heavy as I though it should. Unfortunately I got it years ago when more new to this and didn't even think about people faking them. Feel free to use whatever you want as an example. Hopefully my mistake will help someone else

I'm starting to believe that. RB For Spinosaur claws this is definitely true. From all the spinosaur claws I've seen on the open market it kinda looks like there's like ten times as many fakes. And yeah, like the others have said. This piece is a fake as well. 1 Olof Moleman AKA Lord Trilobite

But im not sure , since I wasn't collecting back then. In anycase its very sad to see, and especially for those who think they are buying the real deal. Every dollar spend is a waist.
