Collected at Dunedin causeway in Florida.

I thought possible echinoid. If not, I’m cutting it open to look inside. Thanks!

  • Fossildude19 changed the title to Hi! Anyone know what this is?

This looks like a chert cobble with some sort of different mineral inclusion.

Not seeing any symmetry to indicate echinoid of any kind.

I'd cut it open.

Yup. Echinoids are more symmetrical and have nice adornment on the surface. Inside seems to be some sort of iron-rich center. Some of the limestone looks a bit transparent like it is silicifying into chert.

I second the man-made hypothesis. I often find pieces of asphalt or other man-made waste that has been dumped into the creeks/rivers anywhere in Florida that's near civilization (which is basically everywhere).

Must be Ariel’s mermaid comb :)

Size would be about right and this could have come from something like an electrical transformer. I can imaging pieces of something like that entering the waste stream and literally ending up in a stream.

We drink and we know things (obscure Game of Thrones reference). With a large number of members with diverse fossil hunting backgrounds we have experienced all sorts of finds (fossil and otherwise).

Cheers.

Haha and WINTER IS COMING!! I’m new to fossil hunting and appreciate all of your expertise! Finding things isn’t as fun for me if I can’t learn what it is. Im soaking in all the knowledge and terminology from all of you. This forum is gold!!
