I think that's a dens - odontoid process from a C2 axis vertebra. Not sure from what yet. Dimensions help.

Sorry late with requested info...............................the vert is roughly 2"x2". 

 

Please refer to the previous pics...............I accidently posted a pic of a dolphin vert that you can ignore

is this the same vertebra in your latest photo.  This last one is  not a C2, but a thoracic or lumbar vert.
