What is this?

I don’t think this is quite fossilized yet, and think it’s some type of shell but I don’t know. I find similar shell pieces on the beach but not with this weird bumpy swirl. Anyone know what it is? I can’t remember where I found it but it was definitely Florida. Thanks!

Hi Amarykah,

 I think thats an operculum, the lid of a gastropod. I have never seen one with that bumpy swirl either, but the other side looks typical.

Very cool find!

More smooth ones are used in jewelry under the name of "shivas eye".

I just started one with shark teeth. Drum fish teeth and sting ray barbs would look cool!
