Purchased this piece in 2018, but now have concerns about its authenticity. Main area of concern is the base of the horn where the outer layer has chipped away to reveal a white-ish interior that looks a bit like cement/plaster. There is a slight glint to the white material. Any help is much appreciated + can upload more photos if necessary!

Looks like there was some work done to the back side and the paint/putty is flaking off.  Do you have any additional photos of the other side.

Hmm, im no Expert in Triceratops material, but my guess would be that the entire tip is restored, (plaster painted) you can see were I marked it. The lighter area seems to be the original horn.

My guess is that its pretty common, I just have a friend who has a similar horn, and had it done with a restored tip.
Not fun to find out now offcourse, they should provide you with the whole story upon purchase.

There is a product that removes fabricated stuff , i believe its called Acetone, but im not sure, surely others will know. You can also try a UV light before testing with the product. Because if it turns out it is restored, you will end up with a half of fossil then what you have now lookswise.

The areas with white stuff is definitely where the paint is coming off of the material (plaster?) they used to reconstruct the fossil.  In the photo with the possible reconstruction is circled in red, note the color and texture of the brown in between the two white holes on the left side.  Anywhere on this specimen where you have similar texture has been reconstructed.  I do not think (based on these pix) that the whole tip is a recon job.  Can we see better photo of that edge, including close-ups of where the red line goes to the left of the coin?   The tip does look too flat, but there is a lot of variation in the shape of this part of the horn.

I agree I don't think the entire tip is a recon job who would restore it in that flat shape. Like we've all indicated need more photos and ones that are sharper than those provided
