Cyclist
I am hoping to get some opinions on a couple of pieces recently found in a dry lake bed. They were found about a foot apart among a group of smaller fragments in roughly a 20 foot circular area. Their unusual color and texture (for this area) is what drew my attention. I'll attempt to add a few photos. I have more if needed. Location: Austin Chalk - Rock unit Kau - Period Cretaceous - Epoch Gulfian
Bringing Fossils to Life
Some kind of burrows?
Cyclist
Thanks for your input. What I normally find close to my house are impressions of various types in limestone, so these pieces had me curious. They took some prepping to reveal their look. Interesting how the geology changes near me. I can ride my bicycle to a construction area about 2 miles north and find little in the way of fossils, but many small clumps of pyrite crystals embedded in gray marl. If I walk a mile south from my house, there is a limestone wall with what I call a 'rock tumble' at the base. In the debris at the bottom of that are large pieces of bladed siderite. Some are suitcase size. I brought back a few smaller pieces that I could carry by hand. Thanks again. Bob
