Lucia0505
There are cross hatch patterns in the wood making it almost look woven. The rock imbedded in it or attached to it looks like amber. its bright yellow and dark when no light is behind it. The amber or agate looks like it has some of the same fiber pattern around the edges.
TqB
It could well be a stromatoporoid if the location makes that feasible. The laminae and pillars are typical, like this Devonian one (scale in mm):
digit
The striated texture with the cross-hatching does resemble some petrified wood but I've also seen odd minerals that can have a texture similar to this. Petrified wood often has sections of micro-crystalline quartz (chalcedony) and that may be the translucent yellow layer. I'm not sure at the moment if this is purely mineral or if it shows some signs of being fossil material. @ynot may be able to provide some guidance here. It would also be very helpful to have an idea of where this item was found. A somewhat precise location can be helpful in determining the age of the surface rocks which may provide a better idea of possible fossil types. Cheers. -Ken 1 1
Lucia0505
Thank you so much for responding and taking time on this. I found it at the Oregon Coast Near Bandon.
Brandy Cole
The cross hatching looks very similar to petrified wood I've found in Texas. 2 1
ynot
I would call it petrified wood with a little agate. Common in Oregon. 2

Carl
That's pretty convincing petrified wood to my eye.
