Possible frag of tooth or other fossil?

While combing my local beach in Virginia Beach, I came across this piece. The inside coloring and texture has me questioning tooth, much like some of the broken pieces of GWs that I’ve found in the same area.
Shaped like an oval cylinder, about 3 inches long. Tusk? Rock?

Here is a thread you might find interesting.  I think bone, but might be tusk... I think we need a better look inside....

More photos of the ends showing inside. Possible Schreger lines?

Based on texture, I would be leaning toward tusk. But I can't really make out any schreger lines in these pictures.  Could this be petrified wood?

Could be wood,  but pretty strange...

Some photos seem to show a globular center... and others Schreger lines.  @darrow @Harry Pristis

Yes, I think that's it.

I was surprised by the outside layers.  @Boesse

Does walrus ivory have Schreger lines?

Walrus ivory is easily differentiated from elephant ivory and mammoth ivory as walrus ivory is a tooth rather than a tusk and as such does not have any Schreger lines. These walrus teeth have a unique marble like quality, with an outer dentine layer and a mottled inner core, as with all teeth.

Fantastic find... Numerous fossil hunters never find one of these,  including me after 15 years...  Congratulations!!! Like winning a lottery.

Absolutely a walrus tusk - looks like a female Ontocetus emmonsi. The first cross-section photo shows the globular dentine quite well!
