Jesse Brown
Hi all: excited to be a part of the group and get some help identifying some previous and future finds. Hoping for as much detail as possible on the enclosed tooth i found this year. I suspect some sort of whale tooth, maybe. Location: Jekyll Island, GA (shorline). Thank you all in advance! Meganeura
Definitely a whale tooth. Based on the shape - Kogiopsis sp. @Boesse will possibly be able to provide more info though! 1 Fossils? I dig it.
Al Dente
Is the cross section round or flattened? A photo of the base would be good.
Boesse
Some kind of smallish sperm whale tooth.
Jesse Brown
@Al Dente @Boesse - thank you both for responding. Enclosing a cross-section of the base and a couple others new photos if they are helpful.
Al Dente
Thanks for the additional photos. If Boesse says it is a whale tooth, believe him. I thought it looked really flat from the first couple photos but it is a lot rounder than I originally thought. 2
