A fake fossil fish

Boy its a pretty detailed specimen.  Could the plaster have been used to support the fish to keep it from falling apart.  Have you tried dabbing the fossil with acetone to see if the surface is painted?

Yes,it was from a old collection and the owner refund it and told me to keep it

Yes, I used acetone on the tail of the fish, that's why the paint is a little paler there.

This looks authentic to me, I would see no reason for a seller to fake something like this that otherwise be a pretty common fossil. The fish scale has some very fine and detailed impressions and the color of the nodule looks right for Madagascar. There was a post many years ago about Madagascar fossil fish and you can see the similarities in the preservation of the fossil as well the the colors of the matrix.
