Maybe a chunk of bone from the beach replenishment a few years ago…I don’t see any recognizable features maybe others will

I don't see much by way of bone texture here. Is there a region that has a clear cancellous structure (the spongey/foamy looking middle of many bones)? I suspect it's something geologic like a phosphate nodule.

I don’t see any of the material your describing…did pull up images of phosphate nodules and it definitely looks like the picture I found.

mm, good photos, but I still lean geologic. It's an intriguing shape and I would almost certainly pick it up to take a look. Hopefully you get a couple more replies.

I disagree.. this looks very boney.  The texture looks boney and skulls and vertebrae can have nice round holes like that. But what?  If I had to put a label on it based on these pix I would say a worn tumbled piece of a larger bone (like a skull or a vertebra).

Seems more "laminated" than cancellous compared to what I've found in South Carolina and MD. But I'm not at all certain. Thoughts @Meganeura @Fin Lover ?

 

Question for @Obx Mae - is there an obvious plane of bilateral symmetry?

It's an interesting one. I would say bone, personally - not every bone piece I've found has the porous texture, there's definitely chunks that are smoothed over. From what though... not a snarge clue!

concerning symmetry I´d say if its a bone, its a small fragment of something bigger like JPC said. Seemingly not including the exact midline.

I agree with @jpc on this. Very obviously a broken, worn and tumbled piece of a larger bone.
