Hello Friends,

Do you have any idea about this fossil from kem kem? Could it be a partial spinosaur jaw?

Looking for your valuable opinion.

Thank you in advance

Best

The anatomy does not fit any jaw.
I think this is carved bone.

Carved modelled on crocodile.

When you are determining if a specimen is Spinosaurid always be looking for the ridge circled in my photo.    Croc jaw which are often sold has Spinosaurid do not have one like in your example.  There also can be lots of variation in a size of the alveoli depending on what part of the jaw you are looking at.

That piece of carved bone doesn't even look like it comes from the kem kem beds, I'm thinking most likely phosphate mines.

I see a rib drilled with nice round holes which are then refilled with glue and matrix.

Looks like a crocodile to me.

look at the photo of a croc jaw in troodon's post.  There is a slight concavity in between each tooth hole (alveolus).  The bone in question shows none of that.  Also croc jaws have distinctive croc texture along the outside surface... again, none is present.   And lastly, croc jaws do have bone that sticks out sideways, but it would be much further back toward the jaw joint than this one.   This bone is not what they are claiming.

That's all. I learned new things.
