Will a new dinosaur be found once every few years even in 100 years?

Do you think we'll find a new kind of dinosaur every few years after 100 years?

It all depends on how humanity will proceed.

- Will there be more time for leisure activities like fossil hunting? And will fossil hunting be still allowed or even promoted then? More professional paleontologist around?

- Or has humanity largely been whipped out, with the few remainers struggling to survive? "What are fossils? Can you eat them?"

- Or more probably something in between, less drastic, more complex?

Some more knowledgeable member could be able to give you a curve (how is this called?), predicting, how many dino species are still waiting in the ground.

Thank you. It certainly depends on the future of mankind.

I'm optimistic and say emphatically yes.  Dinosaur discoveries have accelerated over the past decade and there is no reason to think it will stop.  There is so much that is unknown and discoveries continue to grow in new areas across the globe.    Africa and South America continue to be a hotbed of new discoveries and that will continue.  We also need to better understand the ones that have been discovered so more complete specimens need to be found.

We have barely scratched the surface on all the dinosaurs that have existed so lots more room for growth even in 100 years but at a much reduced rate.  But if we have found them all in a 100 years great our job is done in that aspect of discovery

Nice article:

From the article

Thank you for your insight!

Copying over from that article you linked to:

"paleontologists have identified about 1,000 dinosaur species and estimate that at least that many more have yet to be found."

Do you have a graph handy with number of new species described every year?

Thank you! Perfect!

Clearly lot of new dinos in the ground (or already in museums).
