Possible fossil??

Hi there. My son found this rock and he search it on a Rock Identifier app and said it may be a fossil. It kind of looks like it on the exterior. The rock has broken into peace’s and now he only conserves 3 of them. What looks odd to me is the interior , sounds like a rock though.
Hope for some help.

Hard to tell if there is a fossil here as the texture is not very clear. Unfortunately, it looks like you need to hold the 3 pieces together and the camera is doing a better job focusing on your fingertips than the rock (a common problem). I've cropped and sharpened the image a bit to see if anybody else can make out any identifiable texture in this rock. You might consider gluing the pieces back together and attempting some somewhat closer images trying to ensure they are focused on the surface of the rock. At the moment I don't see anything suggesting a fossil but clearer photos may lead to a different analysis.

Cheers.

Oh, and welcome to the forum!

Not a lot of members from south of the border so looking forward to seeing rocks/fossils from your area. ;)

Cheers.

Yup. Clearer images. I'm seeing interesting surface texture but I'm not recognizing it as any form of fossil that I know of. Possibly, this is an interesting texture created by geologic rather than biologic processes. We'll see if any others spot something I'm not seeing. ;)

Tell your son to keep looking for interesting rocks. Hopefully, if he is curious and has a good eye for spotting unusual rocks he might find some fossils. Looking forward to seeing other finds here. I don't know if you have any museums or universities near you but you might be able to find some resources to learn where outcrops of fossil bearing rocks may be found near you.

Cheers.

Try taking photos in sunlight.  Some parts may be fossil casts.

It's hard to make out anything definitive.  I am seeing some structure that looks like fossilized sponge and there is an interesting fragment imbedded that looks like a fossil in this photo blowup.  It reminds me of the limestone so common in the Yucatan.  Where was it found?
