Acorn
Hi all, I'm wanting to buy a microscope, so I can look at my amber inclusions more closely. I've been reading that a Stereo Microscope is the best to use. Is there a minimum the microscope needs to go up to magnification wise? I was to get as close as possible without breaking the bank lol I'm eventually wanting to photograph my amber. What do you all use? Can anybody recommend any models? It needs to have a light so I can illuminate the amber.

That will come in handy when I finally get to the photographing stage which wont be for a while. I need to get the microscope part sorted out first. cngodles
Eventually you will get too close. I have a standard 10X eye piece with a 0.6X to 4.5X zoom combination stereo scope. You can get lost while looking at these things. There are different ways to light the specimens, either an external source or by using a light source under the amber itself. I don't sell/endorse any particular scope myself, but this is one I have used and enjoyed for looking though amber. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00X4LJD4Q/ You'll find several brands of scopes that are essentially clones or relabels of a scope similar to this. The amount you pay will depend on your need for a trinocular mount, specific lighting, eye pieces, and more.
