Hello again! Found this today onboard Camp Pendleton…thoughts on what it might be?

Appears to be a sedimentary schist with perhaps calcite layers. If you want to learn more about your area, then perhaps this could help. There is also a book available called "Geology and Natural History of Camp Pendleton".

I agree that it isn't wood, but the schist aspect I'm not so sure of. It doesn't look quite as metamorphosed as that to me. Weathering could cause it though.
