Hello everyone and thank you for letting me join the forum I believe I had joined before and I couldn't find my account for some reason it's been some years so I guess it got deleted and also I'm using my phone because back in January the apartment building I lived in burnt down and I'm staying at this motel which happens to be on a gold mine for fossils

Well my question is this on the formations of the fossils in the limestone mainly the hotter limestone which is probably the older one like the green and the greenish blue and the gray I have several large pieces that look like they you know might be fun to do but I'm wondering on which way to approach it I got to get some vinegar and some baking soda and some Lodge tubs probably at the dollar store and let him soap for a few days and also I mean what's inside these formations I mean would there be like any like crystallization from the act because there's a few of them that which are crystallized which would be agate I think I'm not sure I'm a tool and die person so I mean this is new to me so please bear with me

Also when I was collecting these you'll see by the pictures I mean I got a few of them because like I said I'm stuck in a hotel and only thing to do is walk up and down the river and I found some triangular ones which are also extremely heavy and I think they're also like the green Crystal type ones inside I'm not sure has anybody seen these before and they have some pretty good fossils on them on the outside in depth are about probably a half inch into out you know and on the smaller one just seems to be like guidelines on how do I guess clean it I mean that's kind of odd so to speak I mean it's like paint by number well if anybody has any input please let me know thanks again for the joint I'll try not to add so many pictures next time

I'm sorry to hear about your apartment.  Can you let us know what city and state (or area) these came from so people can better advise on whether fossils can be found there and, if so, what kind?

My favorite things about fossil hunting: getting out of my own head, getting into nature and, if I’m lucky, finding some cool souvenirs.

Yeah sure I meant to do that I thought I put it in there my mind's a little boggled they came from Lincoln Kansas and I believe they were freshly dug up because I there's some large do some large snarge it this large formations and they're probably around 5 ft across and they're broke and they when they dump them they broke in half and inside them was a lot of like dirt and there's actually some formations made out of mud and I got some I put them in plastic bags I wore gloves and there's actually grass growing out of one of them which is weird you know because I mean I don't believe any grass seeds got inside the sandstone because I mean it was recently broke open could have I don't know I mean it broke when he dumped it out of the dump truck it seems like a shame I would think that KU would have a I mean there's some really nice ones there I mean and I I probably got now over 5,000 because I've been trying to do like I don't know 2000 a month I've been here for 3 months and I missed a couple nights but I've walked about a half a mile carrying these things up the river and up a hill because I like I said I've been little upset about the apartment fire and everybody stealing my stuff so that's kind of therapy for me now all right I kind of like the triangle ones because of the pretty neat I've seen him somewhere before I can't remember where they actually look like heads these things because

Did you find all of these rocks in the same place? You mentioned walking up and down the river? Which river? Did you find the rocks there? At least some of them came out of a dump truck, right? Do you know where the dump truck loaded them?

Yes that's one thing I don't understand is because there's some I found in the bank where there's like trees and dirt and stuff and they're under like a tree stump that's been there a while and I had to take these out really hard but they're different a little bit but not by much this whole area is like a big fossil place you know I mean Lincoln's only about 40 miles away and this is Salina and basically they're all the same fossils except is not any of the green limestone here like in the bank but the same small fossils that are being dumped are also in the dirt here so I mean but the large ones I'll post a picture of them on about 10 minutes I mean some of them are 10 ft long by I don't know four feet in diameter and they look really nice I mean I don't understand why they're being dumped there and the way they dumped them they dumped them on the edge of where the bridges then they put the bridge in and I mean they're stacked the good six feet high and there's some probably three four tons that's just like pivoting on another rock and if you move a rock it's going to fall so it's like really precarious there but guess what that's where the good ones are because I guess everybody else knows I was thinking about showing up the the top one but I'm not even going to mess with it because it's not worth it because no one goes down there that much and if that thing falls on you that's all she wrote well I'm going to do another post because there was a large one that would broken half and it was like a bunch of it looked like stomach content of something but it's not something I think I would want to touch with my beer hands and I think I'm already infected by something I really don't know what it is because you know the same you know the pattern of those white ones that go on the rocks like the freaking fossils I got the same things on my arm like scars now and I don't have any idea how I got got them I mean I wear gloves I need peroxide bleach everything I mean it just happened and that happened at my apartment building when they dug up the water pipe I was walking back from the mailbox and I seen this Lodge cluster and I'm like I just picked it up without thinking and this was 2 years ago I went to the hospital but my breathing issue if you like cough up some weird Sunshine I mean you wouldn't believe it but they told me that my imagination well anyhoo I'll post a picture of the size of those other ones and there's a few that I want to get there like l shape they're really nice limestone I think the advertise but I don't know and there's one that looks like a tree stump that I'd like to get I think it's a cringot I don't know I can't say the word right anywho that's the story thanks

Hello Austin 2000,

I would really not recommend that you go on pulling rocks out of precarious piles at night while in a somewhat altered state of mind. Thats not a safe thing to do.

Rather take a closer look at the many many rocks you already collected.

Is there anyone who can help you?

Best Regards,

J

Yes I know what you mean about that I was having a friend come down there with me before to help to help me but he's got to work but I don't go there at night climbing up on the rocks I would even think about it like during the day I'll whatever I find I'll throw down at the base and then at night go back and get it and I guess somebody else has been going there also because there was a lot of ones which I found that I put on the side to get later because they were either too heavy or I had too much to carry and I went back yesterday and the one good piece that I was going to have my friend help me with with probably about I don't know 150 200 lb it looked like a tree stump that was pulled down at the ground it was about two friend diameter by about on the same in height but it had long train old things like roots that were coming out of the side and I think that would have been an interesting one but somebody else's got it so I hope they have fun with it yeah I know what you're saying you should always go out rock hunting you know with a friend in case of anything ever happened you know I mean the only people I go down there are the homeless to like party I do know what you mean thanks again
