wi_nerd
A friend asked me to look at this fossil he discovered at the base of a limestone bluff in NE Iowa it is a Native American winter camp and cave complex. Have found trilobite and marine fossils in the area. It looks remarkably like a tall molar or short bone but a couple hundred million years too old. Does anybody recognize this? My best guess is that is a stalk of a plant precursor?
Mahnmut
Hi wi_nerd and welcome to the forum. To me it looks as if the segment below the arrow was part of a structure that goes on to the left of the pic. COuld be a burrow infill or other trace fossil? fossilhunter21
Welcome to TFF, @wi_nerd. I have to agree with, @Mahnmut, and @Fossildude19. Looks like some kind of ichnofossil. Cheers and Shalom, -Micah

The bluff country of NE Iowa is mostly Ordovician when the sea covered the landscape and boney animals did not exist. Trace fossils are common here and I agree with the other forum member's suggestions. Mike
