What is this small fossil found on the beach? - Tybee Island GA

Hello,

I found this fossilized bone on the beach on Tybee Island, GA while looking for shark teeth. It looks like a tiny alligator or snake head but I'm guessing it's not. Any help to ID would be greatly appreciated!  The first pic is the top of it, second is it flipped over. Thank you for any help!

Welcome to the Forum from Maryland. The second pic looks like part of Sauron's helmet. But, I'm sort of a Tolkien nerd. :heartylaugh:

My favorite things about fossil hunting: getting out of my own head, getting into nature and, if I’m lucky, finding some cool souvenirs.

Fossil hunting is easy -- they don't run away when you shoot at them!

That is a nice one. The ones I have found are significantly more worn.

Agreed. The detail is preserved nicely!
