Is this a bone fossil, and if so, what type?

I have dozens of native artifacts that are tooled from this material. I'm wondering if it's fossilized bone? I just read to lick the fossil and if it sticks to your tongue, it's bone. I'm embarrassed to talk about licking rocks in my first post, but It is definitely sticking to my tongue, much more than any others I have.

I'm thinking it is not fossil bone. The lick test is a bit imprecise as just about any rock with porous texture will stick to the tongue. It's okay to confess to licking rocks -- we're all friends here. :D

I'll make an alternate post about all the other culturally significant objects I licked today.

When I have time and better service I will put better pics up.

See the scoop that's removed from the bottom pic? Kinda looks like how bone would flake off - notice the striations in it?

Sounds good. We have a healthy number of NY collectors on here, and they will be much better in providing more pinpoint identification than I could. :dinothumb:

I don't think this is bone.

Looks more like limestone or chert, to me.

Not seeing any bone texture or morphology.

I'm moving out of my house today, which was supposed to mean packing all day. Instead I spent two hours licking rocks.

This is why I have no friends.
